Forensic Pathology Fellowship

Responsibilities

The fellow will act as a functioning forensic pathologist, under the supervision and guidance of experienced board-certified forensic pathologists; the fellow will participate in scene investigations, is responsible for complete postmortem examinations (approx. 200-250), including thorough reports that effectively convey his/her/their findings and opinions, have good communication skills in order to discuss cases with family members, law enforcement, and attorneys, participate in conferences with interested parties, assist in the teaching of rotating medical students and other medical trainees, and is involved in court testimony. The fellow is to devote six to ten weeks exclusively to laboratory experience (e.g., toxicology, anthropology/odontology, and crime laboratory). The fellow will achieve medical knowledge, professional communication skills, practice-based learning, and system-based practice experiences required by the ACGME.

Qualifications

  • Valid Nevada class C driver’s license at the time of training 
  • Doctor of Medicine or Osteopathic Medicine degree (MD/DO) 
  • Valid license to practice medicine in the state of Nevada at the time of training 
  • Successful completion of an ACGME accredited anatomic pathology residency 
  • Eligibility for certification in anatomic pathology or anatomic/clinical pathology by the American Board of Pathology

Compensation

  • Salary will be based on graduate medical education year, commensurate with the level of postgraduate training in pathology 
  • In addition to UNLV PYG based salary, the Clark County Office of the Coroner/Medical Examiner is providing a stipend in the amount of $54,000 making the total salary range $100,000 to $120,000 based on program year 
  • No state income tax in Nevada
