Responsibilities

The Department of Sociology and Anthropology at Middle Tennessee State University invites applicants for a full-time, research-track faculty position (#123620) in forensic anthropology at the rank of assistant or associate professor. The start date for the position is August 1, 2025. 

The successful candidate is expected to have research and teaching experience in forensic anthropology; specialization is open. The successful candidate will teach courses in their areas of expertise at the undergraduate level. Qualified applicants must show evidence of an active research agenda, a record of successful grant writing, teaching experience, and professional activity. 

The position will be housed within the MTSU Forensic Institute for Research and Education (FIRE). It will require the mentorship of forensic anthropology students on the FASR (Forensic Anthropology Search and Recovery) Team. The successful candidate will demonstrate experience in forensic anthropology casework and a willingness to collaborate on research with faculty in Criminal Justice and Forensic Science.

Qualifications

A terminal degree in anthropology is required by the appointment date. The candidate must be board-certified or eligible to apply for board certification from the American Board of Forensic Anthropology (ABFA) by the appointment date.

Compensation

Salary and rank are contingent on education and experience.
