Responsibilities

  • Assist the Chief ME in her duties as the CEO of DOMES and attend board meetings 
  • DCME assumes the duties and responsibilities of the Chief ME during an absence 
  • Perform primary functions of a forensic pathologist in accordance with industry standards for postmortem examinations, certifies cause and manner of death, generates autopsy reports, testifies in court as an expert witness, determine jurisdiction (pursuant to Florida State Statute, Chapter 406) and determine the cause and manner of death 
  • Support the Chief in the oversight and management of daily operations of an MEO 
  • Implements and recommends necessary procedures and policies to achieve NAME accreditation following new facility completion (March 2026)

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Graduation from a recognized school of medicine, an unrestricted medical license in the state of Florida upon start, plus: 
  • Certification by the American Board of Pathology in Anatomic Pathology and Forensic Pathology (AP/FP) 
  • Three (3) years of experience practicing as a forensic pathologist • No prior administrative or supervisory experience needed 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Knowledge of NAME accreditation standards 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 
  • Knowledge of implementing QA systems and SOPs 
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective professional relationships

Compensation

Annual base salary from $325,000 to $350,000 

  • Additional compensation for autopsies performed beyond the 250 annual autopsies. This additional case work is elective and compensated at the locums tenens (per case) rate on a quarterly basis.
