Assistant Professor/Forensic Science

Responsibilities

The Department of Anthropology, Sociology, and Criminology at Troy University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor to teach courses in the Interdisciplinary Minor in Forensic Science as well as other undergraduate programs related to the candidate’s specialty. Anticipated start date is August 2025. 

We seek candidates with a Ph.D. in Forensic Science or a closely related field to support the growth of the popular interdisciplinary minor in Forensic Science, which newly includes two separate tracks focused in forensic investigation and laboratory work. Doctoral candidates who are ABD and near graduation will also be considered. 

If hired, the candidate will be responsible for teaching 12 credit hours per semester (4/4 teaching load) in a combination of face-to-face and online undergraduate courses focused in forensic science, criminalistics, medicolegal investigation, and subjects appropriate to their expertise. The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to work in a new forensic anthropology laboratory space which includes an active dermestid beetle colony as well as the University’s Center for Materials and Manufacturing Sciences. We highly encourage applicants whose research specializes in any of the following areas including, but not limited to: forensic toxicology, forensic entomology, forensic analytical chemistry, forensic biology, etc. The successful candidate will also maintain an active research agenda, mentor and advise students, and provide service to the department, university, and community.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Forensic Science or closely related scientific field (applicants that are ABD and near graduation will also be considered) 
  • Ability to teach in both face-to-face and online environments 
  • Ability to conduct scholarly research, publish peer-reviewed work, and seek out grant funding in area of specialization
