Conference Theme
The theme "Technology: A Tool for Transformation or Tyranny?" anchored the 77th AAFS Annual Scientific Conference in Baltimore this February, sparking vital conversations about emerging technologies in forensic science. Thompson emphasized the importance of intentional development and implementation of new technologies, particularly artificial intelligence, to safeguard judicial integrity.
"We have a real voice in the judicial, executive, and legislative branches as far as how these technologies will change the landscape of forensic work over the next 10, 15, 20, 30 years,"
Thompson noted, advocating for a balanced approach that recognizes both opportunities and challenges.
Message to New and Younger Members
When Thompson began his presidency in 2024, he encouraged new members to view senior colleagues as approachable mentors and assured them that "AAFS is a progressive and responsive organization where input from all member levels is valued." His final address reaffirmed this commitment to mentorship and inclusivity.

President Thompson's term yielded three significant achievements:
