Assistant/Associate Professor of Biology in Forensic Science

Ohio Northern University is seeking a full-time Assistant/Associate Professor of Biology in Forensic Science. This position is tenure-track eligible.

Principal Responsibilities:
The primary teaching responsibility will include lecture and laboratory instruction for students of the forensic biology major as well as courses in drug chemistry, forensic toxicology, and environmental toxicology. Student advisement and service to the department, school, and university are expected. The successful candidate will also be expected to start a research program appropriate for participation by undergraduate students.
The curriculum of the forensic biology major is compliant with and fulfills both the FBI QAS of the Forensic/CODIS Databasing Laboratories and Forensic Science Education Program Accreditation Commission (FEPAC) accreditation standards of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences. There are between 50 to 60 forensic biology students presently. Other duties include advising and are assigned by the department chair.

Required Skills:
Expertise in forensic biology, forensic physical methods, microscopy, pattern evidence examination or forensic chemistry is desirable. The successful candidate will have the ability to perform forensic toxicological analysis and will be familiar with SOPs from accredited forensic toxicology and illicit drug testing laboratories. The candidate will be experienced in the principles of the forensic evidence packaging, handling and evidence preservation as well as the use of analytical techniques. The candidate will possess the ability to formulate and conduct forensic science experiments, instruct students in the critical analysis of results and the formulation of conclusions with coherent presentation of findings verbally and in writing; the ability to instruct students in the practice of sworn testimony as an expert witness in court; the ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments; the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. The position will start in August 2012.

Minimum Qualifications:
Ph.D. in Toxicology or related field (Pharmacology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry or Chemistry).
